Top tips – Infrared Sauna

If you’ve found your way here, you’ve probably checked out our Infrared Sauna article & if you haven’t you should definitely check it out so you know why it’s awesome if you don’t already. You can find it here.

Now that’s done, we’d love to share with you our top sauna tips so you can get the most out of every sweaty minute.

Add fruit to your water for some extra flavour

1. WATER UP – drink plenty of water, electrolytes are ok but please don’t drink alcohol before coming into the sauna. Seriously, Hydrate hydrate hydrate! Have a glass beforehand & even bring some into the sauna with you if you want & drink plenty after too.

2. Don’t eat a big meal right beforehand. Having a heavy meal in your stomach can make you feel uncomfortable & possibly a bit nauseas when your body starts to heat up

3. Shower before you go in – this helps remove any impurities from your skin & means your body will be able to clear stuff out better. A sauna is definitely not a replacements for a shower.

4. Choose the right clothing – What you wear in the Sauna is up to you as long as you have underwear on, so dress to your level of comfort (& your friends if your bringing someone in with you) Pack clothes to change into – after you have been all sweaty it can be really difficult getting tight clothes back on so you are way better wearing something loose & you’ll be much more comfortable both in the getting dressed process & afterwards.

5. What not to bring – we don’t recommend wearing jewellery in the sauna as the metal can heat up against your skin. Please don’t bring your phone or laptop into the sauna either. It’s not good for your devices or the infrared system. We have bluetooth in the sauna so you can put on music or a podcast to listen to or you can take the time to unplug & just be.

6. If you get too hot and feel unwell at all, OPEN THE DOOR slightly to let some fresh air in. You don’t need to push yourself, its about relaxing & letting stuff go, so no pressure yeah?

7. Time – pick your perfect time frame. Longer is better for the benefits but you’re better off starting out slow with the 30min & working your way up to the 45min after a few sessions

8. During your sauna, we always have music playing outside so sit back, listen & enjoy. You can also do some quiet meditation or take some note paper in & do some journaling or read a book (a physical book not an ebook). If you’re with a friend in there generally you can find something to talk about for the short amount of time you’re in there. It’s not recommended to sleep in there as tempting as it may be sometimes.

Shower before sauna but wait for your body to return to normal temperature before you shower after

9. After – let your body cool down gently. We provide you with a cool towel to wipe off excess sweat but let your body go back to normal temperature before you go & jump in a bath or shower, no matter how desperate you are to get all that sweat off.

10. Post Sauna shower. When you are ready to take a shower there’s 2 streams of thought – WARM or COLD – If your skin tends to get clogged or dirty easy take a cold shower as this helps close up your pores & prevent dirt infiltrating. If your skin tends to be dry & needs all the moisture it can get, have a warm shower as this can help your skin better absorb the moisture from your creams & lotions.

The big question –  How often should I book an Infrared Sauna session?

You need to contact us directly via message or our phone to book Sauna appointments – they are not able to be booked online

That’s up to you really, but here is what we recommend. Start out slow with like 1 session a week then if you have time you can come in a couple of times a week or go for longer sessions instead. It is totally safe for you to have a sauna every day if you choose to (God knows we love to have one as often as possible here)

We hope this helps you get the most out of your sessions with us.

See you in the Sauna,

Michelle, Alana & Steph X
